Guided Practice:
- What is the probability of rolling a number greater than 4 on a regular 6-sided die? Give both the theoretical and the experimental probability (out of 30 trials). Remember you don’t actually have to roll a dice 30 times if you would rather use a technology simulation (TI calculator, Tinkerplots, etc.)
2. Pull all of the hearts out of a deck of cards (13 cards). What is the probability that you randomly draw a face card* out of those hearts? Give both the theoretical probability and the experimental probability (out of 30 trials). Remember you don’t actually have to draw a card 30 times if you would rather use a technology simulation (TI calculator, Tinkerplots, etc.)
*Cards that have a face on them. Jack, Queen, King.
3. Flip a coin 2o times. How many heads did you get? Is it close to the theoretical probability of 50%?
Flip a coin 30 more times and record the total number of heads out of 50. Are you closer or farther from the theoretical probability than you were after 20 trials?
Remember you don’t actually have to flip a coin 50 times if you would rather use a technology simulation (TI calculator, Tinkerplots, etc.)
