Fields Medal Awarded to Female Mathematician

13math-master675Remember how there isn’t a Noble Prize in Mathematics?  The oldest and most prestigious “replacement” prize for that award in mathematics is called the Fields Medal — and yesterday, for the first time, a female was awarded the prize.  Great strides for women in STEM.  Congratulations to Dr. Mirzakhani.
