The Physics of a Soccer Ball

Screen Shot 2014-07-04 at 12.04.35 PMThis is a little different than the usual sports fare for this site — this is less “analytics” and more pure physics.  But it is very cool — see how a single rubber band dramatically affects the flight of a ball.  Same player, kicking the same part of the same ball — but a radically different flight path thanks to a single rubber band.

See the demonstration and find out why that is here (courtesy of M.I.T.):  The Aerodynamics of the Beautiful Game

BADGING:  Watch the video and read the small paragraph.  Write at least two paragraphs that explain what modifications were made to the soccer ball and how they affected the flight path of the ball.  Why did this happen?
