Did You Know That There Isn’t a Nobel Prize in Mathematics?

Money_Cash…but with the Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics, who cares?  This $3 million (!!!) prize was just awarded to 5 mathematicians from around the world — including some pretty young ones.

One of the sponsors of this prize in mathematics is Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook.  Cool.  Next time Facebook messes up my timeline, I’ll be sure to complain just a little bit less.

See the list of winners and what they’ve been working on at this link:  Five Mathematicians To Receive $3 million (Scientific American)

BADGING:  Pick one of the mathematicians and do further internet research (Wikipedia is fine) about that person.  Explain in as much detail as you can what mathematical work this person is working on and why it is important.  Use complete sentences.
